Company Profile
The ornamental smithy was established on 10.08.1966 by Helmut Schmitt.
       Red Smithy
In August 1966 the 300 year old “Red Smithy” was purchased from the Master Blacksmith Rudolf Heidrich.
Obermühle 1966 to 1982 saw staff expansion to comply with the State regulation 10 employees (special dispensation later for an 11th member of staff), of which 7 worked in Taubenheim, with the other 4 in Cunewalde and Neugersdorf. Business activities concentrated on the production of ornamental metalwork, creative lighting, copper and brass wrought work, steel constructions.
1970 – acquisition of the 300 year old Obermühle and subsequent renovation for use as living quarters, office facilities and a restroom.

1981 – 1982 refurbishment of the adjacent barn to form the new blacksmith’s workshop (upper building).

1990 continuous expansion of the workforce to a total of 27 employees by 1994.

1991 expansion of the blacksmith’s workshop to a total of 350 sq.m. production floor space (Annex and lower building)

New construction
1994 new office facilities were built in place of the garage complex, demolished in 1975, which occupied the site of the former mill pond.
1994 Edelstahlverarbeitung Schmitt was established by the founder together with his son, Norman Schmitt, who had been working in the business since 1987. The founders of the business
Company premises 1996 construction of a new production hall to satisfy the ever-increasing space demands and the growth in staff numbers. In 1990 the core business activities had moved to stainless steel fabrication.
 

In 1966 Helmut Schmitt opened his ornamental smithy, acquired the mill as a family home, carried out a full renovation of the premises - including the barn and stables – to provide modern workshops. From 1990 onwards beautiful ornamental objects from these workshops graced public buildings in Berlin and other cities throughout the world.

The profile of the business changed with the open economy. Once the workforce had expanded from 11 to 28 employees, new workshops were built to harmonise with the environment and surrounding areas. The production facilities were later extended by the construction of a new hall.

In 2009 the company moved into its new administration and exhibition area.

Stainless steel is today the most important element in modern metalworking. Creativity and artisan expertise are the defining factors for attractive metalwork. Numerous testimonials from reputable sources underpin our excellence. Stainless steel railings, with glass panels, metal infills or brass elements, stainless steel handrails and cladding, stainless steel furnishings, canopies, porch frames, as well as stainless steel staircases in wide-ranging variations have been designed and fabricated for financial institutes, office buildings, commercial and residential purposes.

Interior design articles, such as shelving, discrete room dividers, door furniture, desks, cladding, glass frames, cashier areas with doors and glazing were conceived and created for branches of both the Volksbank and the Sparkasse.
 
Our expansive customer base allows us to exercise our ability to carry out creative, high quality and innovative tasks for discerning tastes – the cherry on the top of our cake.
And the cake itself? Equipment for sewage works, production of units for industrial purposes, components for the automotive sector, ready-to-install railings and handrails for delivery to the EU States and throughout the world.
The one constant feature of our production remains our capability to respond to the changes and trends on the market.
